Embracing the benefits of change

Change in all aspects of our lives is inevitable and those familiar with agency life know that people come and go.  But since I joined RoseComm over a decade ago, the firm experienced little personnel change. sparkler-677774_1280For 10 plus years, the same colleagues guided me. They taught me the ins and outs of the business, while also building my confidence and helping hone my skills. I knew how they thought and vice versa. So it was a tough pill to swallow when I learned two people instrumental in my career were moving on to positions outside RoseComm. For added change, a junior level employee decided to embark on a new adventure at the same time.

This was a significant amount of change in an incredibility short amount of time. And while initially difficult to process, this opened up new opportunities for RoseComm in general and myself in particular. Instead of resisting the change and viewing it as a negative, I embraced it.

I was promoted to vice president. I’m thankful for the personal and professional growth this has brought me already. I’m discovering new insights about managing a team and how to delegate in a way that allows my colleagues to highlight their strong suits and also learn.

This experience showed me the absolute vital importance of being flexible. I think most people in our line of work would agree that being able to pivot on a dime is a crucial skill. The ability to easily adapt to new situations, clients and responsibilities is something employers and colleagues value.

With added responsibilities, I’m actively trying to make improvements when it comes to organizing my files. This may seem small but it’s important to me, as we all have things we wish we did better. I’m learning the time it takes to create sub folder after sub folder actually saves me time in the long run when trying to locate a document.

The unexpected changes brought me incredible opportunity that I would likely not have had otherwise. They triggered a new chapter not only for the company, but for me as an individual. And for that, I am happy, fulfilled and ready to take on any challenge presented to me in 2016.
